Frequently asked questions

What size does my marquee need to be?

Two good rules of thumb are:
For a buffet event: a minimum of 8 square feet per person
For a seated event: a minimum of 15 square feet per person
Then add in enough space for dance floor, catering tables, DJ, band etc. This will give you a rough idea of your space requirements.

Have a go at our build your own marquee. It will allow you at a glance to see what size of marquee you need.

Do you supply just the marquee?

No. We supply furniture, lighting and flooring. We can also arrange catering equipment, cutlery and crockery. We also have a list of service companies such as caterers, florists, bars and toilets in our ultimate wedding guide.

How long is your marquee hire period?

For weekend events, the marquee can be yours for both Saturday and Sunday. During the week the length of the marquee hire period is by arrangement.

Can your marquees be opened up in warm weather?

Yes. The walls of our marquees can very easily be opened up and secured. We can demonstrate how to do this so that the decision can be left to you on the day.

Are marquees suitable for winter events?

Decked out appropriately, marquees make ideal venues for Christmas and New Year Parties. Powerful heaters ensure warmth and hard flooring, whilst more expensive than traditional summer floor matting it protects the winter marquee from wet winter ground. So you can capture the beauty and convenience of a marquee event even in winter.

What colour are your marquees?

All our marquees are made of white lacquered PVC. We do not provide any striped marquees.

Do we need heaters and are they warm enough?

Even in midsummer, a heater may be necessary. So budget for a heater just in case and make a decision in the week leading up to your event when you have seen the weather forecast. Heater technology has advanced substantially in recent years, so a marquee even in winter will be surprisingly warm.

What is the difference between lined and unlined marquees?

Lined marquees are more luxurious and are an essential element of a traditional wedding-style marquee. With unlined marquees the PVC walls and marquee structure are fully visible, making them more suitable for functional or casual events.

Is the power organised for my function.

Depending on the electricity requirements of the marquee and your service companies, power can either be drawn from a house or the nearest building depending on distance or we can organise a generator to be delivered.

Can I make last minute changes to my marquee?

Yes, within reason. Requests for extra furniture, different flooring etc made in the weeks leading up to the marquee hire can be accommodated subject to availability. A larger marquee may be possible this again is subject to availability. Please do not ask us to make significant changes five minutes before your party starts. We try to be as helpful as we can but in that instance we would need to wave a magic wand.

When will you erect/dismantle my marquee?

Typically, we erect marquees on the Wednesday, Thursday or Friday before an event and we dismantle them on the following Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday. If you have a special requirement, please let us know and we will endeavour to build this into our timetable.

Can your marquees be erected on uneven ground?

Marquees can be erected on sloping or uneven ground. A scaffold platform can be erected to level out a sloping site. Although an expensive option, this can transform an unpromising site into the perfect venue.

Do your marquees stand up to storms?

Our marquees are sturdy and we always ensure that they are properly anchored. They are made in accordance with EC Safety Standards and manufactured to withstand wind loading of up to 60mph. This is adequate for all but the fiercest of gales.

Can the marquee be connected to a building?

Yes. Our marquees can serve as an extension to a building if the space is suitable. Covered walkways are another option.

Does Marldon Marquees have insurance cover?

A copy of our insurance can be seen on our health and safety page.

Could a marquee damage cables or pipes running underneath the site?

If cabling or pipe works are running under the marquee, damage is possible. So please advise us if any gas, water mains or electrical cabling are crossing the site.

Will your marquees damage our garden?

Temporarily yes. Grass that has been covered for several days will not look its best. But recovery will be swift and we are always very careful not to damage plants if flowerbeds are included in a marquee.
